Introduction

These streets were named after Bangholm Farm, also known as Bangholm Bower. In 1896 there were two houses in this area - Bangholm Bower (immediately east of the present South Trinity Road) and Bangholm House (a little further east, between Bangholm Bower and the railway). Bangholm House was surrounded by Bangholm Nursery, which also had a large area south of Ferry Road. These houses were to the north of Ferry Road, but there was apparently a small community with cottages and a smithy on the south side of Ferry Road, east of Royston Terrace. These buildings were subsequently demolished (they were still on the map in 1898) and that area now forms part of the Goldenacre playing fields, located on the section of the former Bangholm Nursery that was south of Ferry Road.

The Bangholm area was mainly developed in the mid 1920s.

Bangholm Loan, Bangholm Grove, Bangholm View and Bangholm Villas form a group of streets east of the former railway line (now walkway and cycle path) which passes under Ferry Road, with the remaining streets being west of the former railway along with Clark Avenue.
